Job Description:
Dell Rapids High School seeks an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to lead our sideline cheer program for the upcoming school year. The Sideline Cheer Coach will be responsible for developing and instructing student-athletes in cheerleading techniques, fostering school spirit, and ensuring a positive and safe environment for all participants. This role involves coaching and leading the cheer teams during all home football, boys basketball, and girls basketball games.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement age-appropriate cheerleading routines, including cheers, chants, jumps, stunts (if applicable and within safety guidelines), and dances for sideline performances.
- Instruct student-athletes on proper techniques, safety procedures, and conditioning exercises.
- Organize and conduct regular practices to develop skills and prepare for games.
- Lead and motivate the cheer teams during all assigned football, boys basketball, and girls basketball games, promoting school spirit and positive fan engagement.
- Work collaboratively with the Athletic Director, school administration, and other coaches.
- Ensure adherence to all school policies, safety regulations, and athletic association rules.
- Foster a positive team environment that emphasizes teamwork, sportsmanship, and respect.
- Manage team communication with student-athletes and their parents/guardians.
- Potentially manage team budgets and fundraising activities (as needed and directed).
- Assist with the selection and fitting of team uniforms and equipment.
- Attend required coaching meetings and professional development opportunities.
Qualifications:
- Previous cheerleading experience (high school, college, or coaching preferred).
- Strong knowledge of cheerleading techniques, safety guidelines, and current trends.
- Demonstrated ability to instruct and motivate student-athletes.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with students, parents, school staff, and the community.
- Commitment to promoting a positive and inclusive team environment.
- Must meet all SDHSAA and Dell Rapids coaching requirements, including background checks and any required certifications.
