Job Overview:
Meade School District is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Educational Sign Language Interpreter to join our team at Sturgis Elementary School in the beautiful Black Hills region of South Dakota. This is a full-time position where you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the education of a student who is deaf. We offer competitive pay along with a relocation bonus.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Assist in Modifying Curriculum: Work with educators to adapt and modify curriculum and
classroom materials to meet the specific needs of a student who is deaf.
• Academic & Nonacademic Support: Assist a student who is deaf during classroom activities, in
the library, computer lab, sports, music, assemblies, special events, and other school activities.
• Implementation of Programs: Support instructional and behavioral programs under the direction
of the assigned teacher to enhance student’s academic and life skills success.
• Interpretation and Transliterating: Provide clear, accurate, and effective interpretation during
classroom instruction to ensure full communication access for a student who is deaf.
• Track Student Progress: Maintain a daily notebook/log to track student progress and document
objectives for Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
• Participate in Meetings: Engage in staff meetings, in-service training, IEP meetings,
parent/teacher conferences, and other relevant meetings to ensure effective communication and
collaboration.
• Perform other duties as deemed appropriate and necessary.
Minimum Qualifications
• Certification: Registered and Certified in the state of South Dakota and holding a level III South
Dakota Certificate, level III NAD certificate, RID certificate, NIC, an individual certified by the
department using the EIPA assessment score of 3.5 or higher, or a South Dakota provisional certificate.
Performance Evaluation
Performance of this position will be evaluated by the supervisor in accordance with the provisions of the
School Board Policy GDN.
