Job Description:
Elementary Teacher
Must possess a current valid South Dakota Teachers Certificate, or provide proof of being in the process of obtaining certification. Must have a degree or be highly qualified in the area of study for which they are hired.
Report to building level Principal
178 Day Contract
Duties to Include:
Strive to implement the districts mission, collective commitments, philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
Teach assigned classes at times and in locations designated by administration.
Plans coursework that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of individual students.
Creates a classroom-learning environment that is safe, positive, encouraging, and pushes students to their full potential.
Prepares lesson plans in accordance with District expectations that challenges all students to achieve at a high level.
Encourages students to set and maintain high standards of classroom behavior and achievement.
Guides the learning process toward achieving curriculum goals and establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and effectively communicate these objectives to students.
Employs a variety of instructional techniques and technology resource to connect learning objectives to the students through real world skills that develop curiosity, creativity, and collaboration.
Assess the progress of students on a regular basis, communicate that progress to parents or guardians, and provide progress reports as required.
Coordinates with District specialists to identify students with disabilities and implement individual education plans as required to facilitate the success of students with disabilities.
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
Assist the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct for the classroom, as well as develop reasonable classroom rules that encourage a respectful, safe, and positive learning environment.
Make provisions to be available to students and parents for educational related purposes outside of the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms and conditions.
Plan and supervise assignments for teachers’ aides and/or volunteers, if one or both is assigned to your classroom, and work cooperatively with the building principal to evaluate their performance.
Actively engage in professional development to improve competency or curriculum.
Attend all scheduled staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Supervise or assist with the administration of extracurricular activities as assigned.
Other duties as assigned by administration.
Includes additional stipends for extra-curricular events and competitions.
