Job Description:

The Head Cross Country Coach will be responsible for the overall management and direction of the high school cross country program. This includes developing and implementing training programs, fostering a positive and supportive team environment, and promoting the values of sportsmanship and dedication. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of cross country training principles, and a commitment to the academic and personal growth of student-athletes.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive training programs that focus on individual and team improvement.
  • Organize and conduct practices, meets, and team activities.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to student-athletes, emphasizing sportsmanship, teamwork, and character development.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all team members.
  • Manage team equipment and inventory.
  • Coordinate team travel and logistics.
  • Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, school administration, and the community.
  • Recruit and retain student-athletes for the cross country program.
  • Adhere to all South Dakota High School Activities Association (SDHSAA) and district policies and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain a positive and supportive team culture.
  • Work collaboratively with other coaches and school personnel.
  • Manage the cross-country budget responsibly.

Qualifications:

  • Previous coaching experience at the high school level or higher preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of cross country training principles and techniques.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire student-athletes.
  • Knowledge of SDHSAA rules and regulations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the academic and personal development of student-athletes.
  • Ability to pass a background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teaching certification or experience working in an educational setting.
  • Experience with fundraising and program development.
