Job Title: 2025-2026 K-8 Principal
Location: Canistota School District 43-1 Canistota, SD
Job Type: Full-Time, 2025-2026 School Year
Salary: Commensurate with experience and district guidelines
Base salary of $70,000. 200 Contracted Days. Salary could increase depending on experience and qualifications, in accordance with the district salary schedule.

Position Overview:
The K-8 Principal is responsible for providing instructional leadership, fostering a positive school climate, and ensuring a safe and effective learning environment for students in grades K-8. The principal collaborates with staff, parents, and the community to promote student achievement and uphold the school’s mission, vision, and values.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide visionary leadership and direction to support student learning and development.
Oversee curriculum implementation, instruction, and assessment to ensure academic excellence.
Foster a positive and inclusive school culture that promotes respect, equity, and student well-being.
Supervise and evaluate teachers and staff, providing constructive feedback and professional development opportunities.
Implement and enforce school policies, procedures, and state regulations.
Manage student discipline and promote a safe, respectful learning environment.
Communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and community stakeholders.
Oversee school budgeting, resource allocation, and operational management.
Collaborate with district administration, teachers, and parents to support student success.
Monitor student progress through data analysis and evidence-based strategies.
Facilitate extracurricular activities, special programs, and student support services.
Lead initiatives to improve student achievement, school climate, and staff performance.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, or a related field.
Valid state administrative certification/license.
Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience.
Prior administrative or leadership experience preferred.
Strong knowledge of K-8 curriculum, instructional strategies, and assessment methods.
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, parents, and the community.
Proficiency in technology for educational and administrative purposes.
Commitment to fostering a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment.
Work Environment:
This position requires flexibility in working hours, including evenings for school events and meetings.
The principal must be visible and actively engaged in school activities and functions.
