 REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION LEVEL:

Master’s degree in an approved program, which qualifies for secondary principal certification with the state of South Dakota.

EXPERIENCE DESIRED:

Minimum of four years’ teaching experience and prior
school administration experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires constant hand-eye/mind-eye coordination, hearing; intermittent walking, talking, writing. Frequent keyboarding and repetitive motions with wrists, fingers, and hands are required.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to use a computer for word processing, spreadsheets and data entry. Knowledge of the best educational practices at the middle school level and current research on secondary education.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES

1. Follows and supports District goals, mission and implements District programs.
2. Assumes responsibility for the administration of the building.
3. Supervises and evaluates all employees assigned to the building.
4. Assigns all staff members and students within the building and determines teaching schedules and student schedules.
5. Works cooperatively with other district administrators and building staff in curriculum development, implementation and evaluation.
6. Follows District, state and federal guidelines in providing exceptional children services as eligible, monitors progress of students, chairs three-year review committees and initial IEP staffing meetings.
7. Develops and maintains a safe, secure environment for students.
8. Manages all monies handled in the school and is responsible for the building budget, including the requisition of needed supplies and materials in compliance with state requirements, policies and regulations of the Board.
9. Establishes and maintains good relationships with parents, civic, professional and community groups.
10. Disseminates information to the public about building activities.
11. Determines staff needs in the building and plays a key role in filling vacancies within the school.
12. Communicates regularly with staff, parents and District administrators.
13. Participates in District meetings and committee assignments.
14. Identifies opportunities for professional growth of staff.
15. Works with school site council in accordance with district guidelines.
16. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors.
