Mitchell Middle School - Mitchell, South Dakota

Starting Date: Immediately

Position Overview:
The Middle School Head Coach plays a crucial role in the development of young athletes both as individuals and as team players and is responsible for leading and managing the overall athletic and extracurricular programs at the middle school level. This multifaceted role involves coaching, providing guidance and support to students, and overseeing the development and execution of the specific sport.

Key Responsibilities:
Team Development:
Plan and execute practice sessions to develop the skills, teamwork, and overall performance of the athletes.
Foster a positive and inclusive team culture that promotes sportsmanship, respect, and collaboration.

Game Strategy:
Develop and implement game strategies that align with the team's strengths and opponent analysis.
Provide guidance and make tactical decisions during games to maximize the team's chances of success.

Player Development:
Identify individual strengths and areas for improvement among players.
Provide constructive feedback and personalized coaching to help players enhance their skills and reach their full potential.

Communication:
Maintain open and effective communication with athletes, parents, school administration, and other coaches.
Keep parents informed about the team's schedule, expectations, and any relevant updates.

Safety and Health:
Prioritize the safety and well-being of athletes during practices, games, and team events.
Ensure that all players are aware of and adhere to safety guidelines and protocols.

Skill Instruction:
Teach fundamental skills and techniques related to the specific sport.
Design drills and activities that focus on skill development and improvement.

Team Management:
Organize and manage team logistics, including scheduling practices and transportation to events.
Oversee equipment and uniform distribution, collection, and maintenance.

Motivation and Leadership:
Inspire and motivate players to give their best effort and persevere through challenges.
Lead by example, demonstrating good sportsmanship, dedication, and a positive attitude.

Collaboration:
Collaborate with other coaches, both within the school and in the community, to share best practices and resources.
Attend meetings and workshops to stay informed about coaching trends and developments.

Evaluation and Assessment:
Assess player and team performance regularly to identify areas for improvement.
Provide evaluations of players' progress and communicate with them about their strengths and areas for growth.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in education, sports management, or a related field preferred.
Coaching certification and/or relevant coaching experience.
Strong leadership and communication skills.
Knowledge of the rules and strategies of the specific sport.
Ability to inspire and motivate students both academically and athletically.
Commitment to promoting a positive and inclusive team culture.
