SUPERVISES: All Special Education staff, which includes but is not limited to Special Education Teachers, and Educational Assistants.
REQUIREMENTS
Education: Master’s Degree Plus with SD Administrative Certificate (Required)
Experience Desired: Appropriate teaching experience.
Physical: Constant hand-eye and mind-eye coordination. Frequent walking, keyboarding, speaking, writing, bending, carrying, pushing, pulling, sitting, reaching, stooping, and turning. Other: Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational, and time management skills. Computer proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, data entry, email, and Internet. Ability to work with frequent interruptions and keep information confidential. Adhere to the District’s Policies and Procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES
Supervise Special Services and Federal Programs.
Monitor procedures for referral, evaluation, placement, and development of individualized education plans.
Communicate with parents during the referral, evaluation, and placement process.
Manage the Federal Grants Management System and Consolidated and IDEA Applications.
Provide leadership in the development, implementation, and maintenance of effective programs for students receiving special services.
Attend district and out-of-district meetings as the administrator and ensure that each individualized education plan is implemented, monitored, and updated annually.
Meet with special services staff on a regular basis to disseminate information, discuss in-service topics, and resolve current problems.
Consult with regular education staff about classroom modifications and program alternatives available for students.
Supervise hiring and evaluating of special education, English learners, and Title and gifted program staff.
Coordinate with the superintendent and building principals in solving problems pertaining to special education programs and/or students.
Process and maintain appropriate reports, comprehensive plans, and maintenance of efforts for the Office of Special Education; keep abreast of federal and state laws pending legislation to ensure compliance with rules and regulations.
Plan and conduct annual child find screenings.
Coordinate schedules of contracted support staff, such as school psychologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and hearing and vision consultants.
Attend Teachwell board meetings when applicable.
Provide information to the school board and district patrons through presentations, articles in newsletters, and brochures.
Assist the transportation director in special transportation for students.
Determine what materials need to be purchased to support the determined curriculum for special services children.
Requisition materials within a manageable budget.
Arrange for staff development and training for special services staff members.
Strives to help promote the safety, health, and comfort of all students within the school district.
Promotes a positive image of the West Central School District.
Performs other duties as assigned.
A post-offer criminal background check is required.
