The South Dakota Department of Education is looking for a driven and detail-oriented individual to join our Office of Educator Certification. Someone who is passionate about education and ensuring that students are prepared for college, careers, and life. Your strong communication skills and ability to help others will shine brightly in this role!

What You’ll Do: As an Educator Certification Officer, you’ll play a vital role in supporting the success of education programs by:

  • Reviewing educator certification applications.
  • Accepting and analyzing transcripts and documents for meeting certification requirements.
  • Providing customer service and technical assistance through phone calls and emails to educators, school districts, and university certification officers regarding certification requirements.
  • Developing guidance to support the requirements for SD educator certification.

We’ll equip you with the training and support needed to navigate the Administrative Rules and Codified Law in SD related to the SD certification requirements successfully.

Licenses and Certifications:

SD educator certification is preferred. 

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

Completed an educator preparation program, with experience in a K-12 school system.

Knowledge of:

  • SD K-12 certification statutes, rules, and policies;
  • SD Educator Preparation Programs;
  • Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, OneNote, PowerPoint, Teams, Lists, Visio). 

Skills and Abilities to:

  • provide courteous, efficient service and respond to customer needs;
  • utilize available resources and technology effectively;
  • clear and effective written and verbal communication with diverse audiences;
  • work well with teams to implement policies and support educators;
  • offer technical assistance to ensure timely processing of certification applications and accurate guidance of certification statutes, rules, and policies;
  • strong organizational skills with attention to detail and multitasking;
  • ensure adherence to laws, rules, policies, and confidentiality protocols;
  • use strategic and creative thinking to solve challenges;
  • maintain positive, professional relationships with stakeholders.
