REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelor’s Degree
Experience Desired: Previous work with Speech and Debate

Physical: This position requires constant hand-eye and mind-eye coordination, hearing; intermittent repetitive motions with the wrists, hands and fingers, sitting, walking, talking, and keyboarding.  The position requires frequent speaking, turning, and grasping.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES
Meets with students outside the regular school day to practice in categories of speech and debate and prepare for contests.
Encourages student participation in the activities program.
Enforces participation rules of SDHSAA, Field Trip and Student Travel Guidelines of the West Central School District, school policies and procedures to students and parents.
Schedules contests in accordance with the SDHSAA calendar.
Budgets, arrange transportation, secures hotel rooms, hires judges, submits entries, posts schedules, dismisses students following attendance procedures, and publicizes for interscholastic contests in accordance with District policy and procedures.
Hosts invitational contests and/ or assists with contests hosted at other schools.
Coordinates scheduling with speech and debate program.
Supervises, schedules for, and communicates with assistant speech and debate coach.
Maintains a safe environment at practices, contests, and student travel.
Orders supplies, purchases resources, and maintains equipment.
Judges extra-curricular contests as needed.
Cooperates with media, parents, and interested spectators.
Meets with and communicates to the Activities Director on all items of travel, budget, standards, calendar, and schedules.
Performs other duties as assigned.
 
A post-offer criminal background check is required.  

WORKING CONDITIONS
Both inside and outside. Possibly subjected to extremes of cold below 32 degrees and heat above 100 degrees. Occasionally subjected to extreme noise, odors, mists, dust, and poor ventilation.

CLIMATIC ENVIRONMENT
Some district classrooms and work areas are not climate-controlled and are subject to extremes of temperature and humidity.
