QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in education.
Minimum of three years coaching and teaching experience
Must hold a South Dakota athletic coaching endorsement
Must be able to obtain applicable certifications with the SD DOE for teaching positions
Preferred Master’s Degree in Educational Administration and Leadership and a South Dakota K-12 principal endorsement
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Director of Activities—To supervise all high school and middle school coaches/advisors and the activities for which they are responsible. Coordinate the entire Lennox 41-4 Activities Program with the support of the Board and administration, to help ensure the coaching staff, students, and patrons are provided an activities program that promotes the positive development of physical, social, artistic, mental, and emotional well-being through participation in activities.
Teaching—To lead students toward the fulfillment of their growth potential within their intellectual, physical, emotional, psychological, and maturation abilities.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Director of Activities
Supervise and evaluate all coaches and advisors.
Conduct regular meetings with staff to address operational items.
Collaborate with principals on the hiring of teachers/coaches.
Supervise home events and arrange for supervision at all events.
Serve as meet director for all track meets hosted by the school.
Develop and manage comprehensive schedules for all activities, minimizing conflicts.
Coordinate practice times with principals, coaches, and advisors.
Ensure all contracts for events are properly written and confirmed.
Prepare and distribute weekly agendas for all events.
Approve travel requests and coordinate with the Director of Transportation.
Distribute schedules to opposing schools and media.
Ensure all opponent's rosters are collected, and programs made and distributed for games.
Assist staff in scheduling summer events.
Approve and coordinate all facility use requests with the building principal.
Prepare, approve, and manage all activity budgets.
Coordinate uniform and equipment purchases and maintain a schedule.
Work with the building principal and business manager to employ personnel for events.
Ensure adherence to SDHSAA rules and regulations.
Ensure district compliance with Title IX and other regulations.
Maintain and update the Activities Handbook and job descriptions.
Maintain records for each activity and ensure eligibility lists are prepared.
Coordinate with coaches to ensure student-athletes have necessary insurance and physicals.
Conduct hearings for students violating activity rules and coordinate with the building principal when suspension is warranted.
Confirm each activity event at least one week prior to the event by contacting the other district’s activities director.
Promote activities programs and support booster clubs.
Communicate with coaches, principals, and the superintendent on relevant matters.
Attending conference, district, regional, state, and SDHSAA meetings and communicating relevant information to stakeholders.
Ensure all athletic facilities are maintained and report any issues to the Director of Buildings and Grounds, superintendent, and/or business manager.
Assume other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
Teaching
Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students, shows written evidence of preparation upon request of the building principal, and follows district-approved curriculum.
Creates a classroom that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicates these objectives to students.
Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting the needs of the students as well as the district’s philosophy of education and established instructional goals and objectives.
Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student conduct.
Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s) when available.
Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment within district discipline policies.
Evaluates student’s academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
Communicate with parents/guardians and relevant school personnel on student progress and interpret the school's program.
Identifies student needs, refers students in need of assistance, and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and assisting with learning or other problems that may affect their ability or opportunity to learn.
Assists students in developing respect for self, for others, and for property.
Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school of assignment and/or on a district level (which will assist the teacher to be aware of current educational, instructional, and social teaching aids).
Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
Participates cooperatively with the building principal in the evaluation process in compliance with district policy and the Lennox Education Association Negotiated Agreement.
Assists in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials. The teacher is responsible for keeping the building principal informed as to the need for materials and repair of equipment.
Attends IEP meetings of students under their authority.
Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned workday with the understanding that certain times are designed as time or duty-free lunchtime.
Administers group-standardized tests in accordance with district testing programs.
Participates in faculty committees and sponsorship of student activities.
Performs other tasks and duties that may be assigned.
