REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION LEVEL:

Bachelor’s degree and endorsements in the areas of teaching assignment. Certification, alternative certification or licensure: current, valid South Dakota teaching certificate.

EXPERIENCE DESIRED:

Successful Student Teaching, High school head coaching experience desired..

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Hand-eye/mind-eye coordination. Constant hearing; intermittent speaking, standing, walking and writing. Frequent carrying, keyboarding, and other repetitive motions. Physical dexterity, the ability to bend, stoop, walk, talk, and sit. The ability to travel between locations.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Excellent oral and written communication skills. Skills in human relations, leadership and conflict management. Knowledgeable of teaching techniques that meet the diverse needs of students. Demonstrated skills in the use of technology to enhance student learning. Fundamentals of Coaching or Equivalent (must be completed one time); Sports First Aid or Prevention and Care of Athletic Injuries or equivalent (must be renewed once every two years); Concussion in Sports – What You Need to Know (must be renewed on an annual basis.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES

Classroom Teacher:

1. Ability to Plan and Prepare Instructional Tasks

  • Plan instructional tasks that are meaningful and related to learning goals

2. Provide Instruction to Students

  • Implement District curriculum

  • Maintain a strong instructional focus utilizing the elements of effective instruction

  • Communicate a high level of expectation

  • Communicate clear learning goals to students

  • Adapt instruction to meet the needs of all students

  • Address various learning styles

  • Sequence content at an appropriate pace

  • Use appropriate level of questioning to promote understanding

  • Relate lesson content to prior and future learning

  • Require students to summarize information in written and/or verbal form

  • Appropriately recognize and reinforce individual student effort

  • Represent knowledge/information non-linguistically through a variety of methods

  • Organize students in cooperative or ability groups when appropriate

  • Require students to analyze and apply knowledge

  • Display enjoyment, humor, and enthusiasm for teaching and expect students to enjoy learning

  • Conduct ongoing assessments for learning

3. Provide Effective Classroom Environment

  • Establish appropriate classroom rules and procedures that are clearly understood by all students

  • Effectively and consistently enforce rules and follow procedures

  • Redirect students naturally and immediately without disrupting others

  • Be well-organized and have all materials, equipment, etc., ready for immediate use

  • Carry out smooth and effective transitions (e.g., from one activity to another, as students enter and leave the room)

  • Maximize time on purposeful instructional tasks

  • Begin and end class period with focus on learning

  • Establish a positive learning environment

4. Participate in Professional Growth Opportunities and Demonstrate Professionalism

  • Participate in ongoing professional growth

  • Participate in school/professional and/or community organizations or events

  • Complete routine assigned tasks and comply with District requirements

  • Promote the education profession

  • Communicate effectively and professionally with colleagues, parents and students

  • Conduct parent-teacher conferences in accordance with District policy

5. Follow District and building policies and procedures.

8. Perform other duties as assigned.

High School Head Coach: 

  1. Assumes responsibility for the entire program including: coaches the varsity squad, supervises assistant coaches 9-12, determines athlete participation during practices and games, including squad level and playing time, in conjunction with assistant coach at the respective level, positively promotes the athletic program within the schools and the community, gives guidance to middle school coaches and programs feeding into respective high schools, implements District athletic department polices.
  2. Assists in the selection and evaluation of assistant coaches.
  3. Works with the Coordinator of Athletics and building Activities Principal in:  formulation of game schedules, selection of contest officials, arrangements for out-of-town trips, arrangements for physical examinations, preparation of athletic permission slips and eligibility lists, preparation of budgets, equipment and supply requisitions, solicitation of athletic insurance, scouting arrangements, planning of new facilities and/or modification of existing facilities, organization of middle school clinics as directed by Athletic Advisory Council and assist middle school coaches in their related programs, direction of the Monogram Club with other coaches
  4. Works with building athletic director to correlate the practice schedules of the ninth, sophomore, junior varsity, and varsity squads.
  5. Supervises dressing rooms and playing area during and following periods of team participation
  6. Remains with students and supervises when traveling to away games.
  7. Cares for athletes and injured athletes.
  8. Cares for and maintains equipment and annual inventories.
  9. Prepares award lists and collects athletic fees.
  10. Attends all conference meetings or any other meeting where the program is involved. Operates within the policies of the conference and SDHSAA.
  11. Works closely with custodians in control at facilities.
  12. Keeps informed on current trends in designated sport and participates in respective clinics.
  13. Maintains active membership in related professional organization.
  14. Prepares list when teams are taken out of school to participate in athletic contest.
  15. Maintains a staff relationship with other coaches.
  16. Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal or Coordinator of Athletics.

PAY INFORMATION

Classroom Teacher starting at $52,233 to $58,823 (based on exeprience).

Classroom Teacher: Monday through Friday, 7:15 am to 3:45 pm
