REPORTS TO: Director of Special Services

SUPERVISES: Students assigned to caseload

WORKS WITH: Occupational Therapist, Students, Classroom aides, administrators, other classroom teachers, classified staff, parents, community members

QUALIFICATIONS: Occupational Therapist Assistance Licensure (South Dakota). Must maintain current registration throughout employment in this classification.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to stand, walk, and sit frequently or for prolonged periods of time. Additional physical abilities include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling, stooping/crouching, reaching, talking/hearing conversations, and near/far visual acuity/depth perception/color vision/field of vision. Must be able to assist in student transfer from chair to chair, chair to floor, etc.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:  Excellent oral and written communication skills. Skills in human relations, leadership, and conflict management. Knowledgeable of teaching techniques that meet the diverse needs of students. Demonstrated skills in the use of technology to enhance student learning.

POSITION SUMMARY: To provide occupational therapy services to students identified with a disability who require occupational therapy and are eligible to receive these services.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
Provides direct occupational therapy to students who are eligible and in need of services.
Attend relevant MDT and IEP meetings as a qualified provider to explain evaluation results and recommendations and to contribute appropriate goals for student IEPs.
Follows, implements, and monitors student progress toward IEP goals.
Serve as a resource for educators to help address modifications and strategies in the classroom for fine and visual motor skills.
Maintain records in accordance with state and district requirements and submit all paperwork, logs, etc. in a timely manner.
Maintain consistent attendance and conform to regular work hours specified under the contract.
Implement and comply with District policies and procedures.
Perform related duties as assigned by the administration in accordance with school district policies and procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned.
