Position Overview

The Elementary Teacher for Grades 2nd-4th will provide an engaging and nurturing classroom environment that supports the academic, social, and emotional growth of students. The teacher will deliver high-quality instruction across core subject areas, foster a love for learning, and create a positive classroom culture aligned with the South Dakota State Standards and district goals.

Instructional Planning and Delivery

• Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with state standards and tailored to meet the needs of diverse learners.
• Teach core subjects, including reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies, using research-based instructional strategies.
• Incorporate technology, hands-on activities, and real-world applications to enhance learning.

Student Engagement and Classroom Management

• Create a safe, inclusive, and welcoming classroom environment that promotes respect, collaboration, and active participation.
• Implement positive classroom management techniques to foster a supportive learning atmosphere.
• Encourage students’ critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity.

Assessment and Progress Monitoring

• Utilize formative and summative assessments to monitor and evaluate student progress.
• Analyze assessment data to inform instructional decisions and provide individualized support.
• Maintain accurate records of student performance and communicate regularly with families about their child’s progress.

Collaboration and Professional Development

• Collaborate with colleagues, specialists, and support staff to address student needs and enhance instructional practices.
• Participate in professional learning communities (PLCs), school meetings, and professional development opportunities.
• Engage with families to build strong partnerships that support student success.

Additional Responsibilities

• Supervise students during recess, lunch, or other school activities as assigned.
• Contribute to school-wide events, initiatives, and activities.
• Stay current with educational best practices and implement innovative teaching strategies.

Skills and Competencies

• Strong knowledge of elementary education pedagogy and child development.
• Ability to differentiate instruction and meet the needs of diverse learners.
• Proficiency with classroom technology and digital tools.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.

Experience

• Previous experience teaching elementary-aged students (preferred).
• Experience in multi-age or mixed-ability classrooms (a plus).
