Position Overview
The High School Science Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging, standards-aligned science instruction to high school students. The teacher will inspire a passion for science while fostering critical thinking, inquiry, and problem-solving skills. Subjects may include biology, chemistry, physics, environmental science, or other courses as assigned.
Key Responsibilities
Instructional Delivery
- Plan and deliver dynamic lessons aligned with South Dakota State Standards and district curriculum.
- Use a variety of instructional strategies and resources to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.
- Incorporate hands-on experiments, demonstrations, and technology to enhance the learning experience.
- Foster an inclusive and equitable classroom environment that encourages participation and curiosity.
Assessment and Evaluation
- Develop and administer formative and summative assessments to measure student learning and progress.
- Analyze assessment data to inform instruction and address learning gaps.
- Provide timely, constructive feedback to students on assignments and assessments.
Classroom Management
- Establish and maintain clear classroom expectations and routines.
- Create a safe, positive, and respectful learning environment.
- Address student behavior in accordance with school policies and promote positive discipline strategies.
Collaboration and Professional Development
- Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and school staff to support student success.
- Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and contribute to the development of curriculum and assessments.
- Attend staff meetings, professional development sessions, and district training as required.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong knowledge of science content and effective teaching practices.
- Ability to create engaging and interactive lessons.
- Proficient in using technology for instruction and classroom management.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Experience
- Teaching experience in a high school setting (preferred).
- Experience with lab safety protocols and supervising hands-on activities (required).
