Position Overview

The High School Science Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging, standards-aligned science instruction to high school students. The teacher will inspire a passion for science while fostering critical thinking, inquiry, and problem-solving skills. Subjects may include biology, chemistry, physics, environmental science, or other courses as assigned.

Key Responsibilities

Instructional Delivery

  • Plan and deliver dynamic lessons aligned with South Dakota State Standards and district curriculum.
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies and resources to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.
  • Incorporate hands-on experiments, demonstrations, and technology to enhance the learning experience.
  • Foster an inclusive and equitable classroom environment that encourages participation and curiosity.

Assessment and Evaluation

  • Develop and administer formative and summative assessments to measure student learning and progress.
  • Analyze assessment data to inform instruction and address learning gaps.
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback to students on assignments and assessments.

Classroom Management

  • Establish and maintain clear classroom expectations and routines.
  • Create a safe, positive, and respectful learning environment.
  • Address student behavior in accordance with school policies and promote positive discipline strategies.

Collaboration and Professional Development

  • Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and school staff to support student success.
  • Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and contribute to the development of curriculum and assessments.
  • Attend staff meetings, professional development sessions, and district training as required.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of science content and effective teaching practices.
  • Ability to create engaging and interactive lessons.
  • Proficient in using technology for instruction and classroom management.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Experience

  • Teaching experience in a high school setting (preferred).
  • Experience with lab safety protocols and supervising hands-on activities (required).
