Job Description:
REQUIREMENTS:
A. Education Level: BA/BS education preferred. US Soccer coaching
certificate preferred.
B. Experience: High School coaching experience preferred.
C. Other Requirements: College coursework in sports coaching and the
prevention of athletic injuries or the SDHSAA
equivalent. Shows the essential markers of the
Catholic faith.
REPORTS TO: Middle & High School Principal
Activities Director
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
1. Assume responsibility for the entire girls' soccer program which includes: Coaching
the varsity squad and supervising assistant coaches 7-12; giving guidance to middle
school coaches (if applicable) and other programs feeding into the high school, and
implements the school system’s athletic department policies.
2. Assists in the selection and evaluation of assistant coaches.
3. Works with the Activities Director in:
a. formulation of game schedules
b. selection of contest officials
c. arrangements for out-of-town trips
d. arrangements for physical examinations
e. preparation of athletic permission slips and eligibility lists
f. preparation of budgets, equipment, and supply requisitions
g. solicitation of athletic insurance
h. scouting arrangements
i. planning of new facilities and/or modification of existing facilities
j. organization of middle school clinics to ensure proper techniques are taught and
to assist middle school coaches in their related programs
k. determine letter winners on the varsity level
4. Works with building facilities director/athletic director to coordinate practice
schedules
5. Works closely with Head Boys Soccer Coach to coordinate practices and games
6. Supervises dressing rooms and playing area during and following periods of team
participation
7. Remains with students and supervises when traveling to away games
8. Cares for athletes and injured athletes
9. Cares for and maintains equipment and annual inventories
10. Prepares award lists and collects athletic fees
11. Works closely with newspapers, radio, and television personnel to encourage
favorable public interest in the girls' soccer program specifically and the STM athletic
program generally.
12. Attends community meetings and accepts any other speaking engagements possible
13. Attends all conference meetings or any other meeting where the program is involved.
14. Operates within the policies of the Black Hills Conference and the SDHSAA
15. Encourages ticket sales at all levels, where possible.
16. Works with the facilities director in control of the facilities.
17. Keeps informed on current trends in the sport and attends and participates in clinics.
18. Maintains active membership in related professional organizations.
19. Prepares and distributes list when teams are taken out of school to participate in
athletic contest.
20. Maintains a staff relationship with other coaches in various sports.
21. Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal or Activities Director

Occasionally subjected to extreme noise, odors, mists, dust, and poor ventilation.
C. Hazards
Possible exposure to body fluids, and communicable diseases. Travel between
locations will cause exposure to hazardous driving and walking conditions.
D. Work Year
July 1 to June 30. This will vary depending on the starting date imposed by the
South Dakota High School Activities Association. Duties of the position may be
performed at any time during that period depending upon the position/season.
