CANISTOTA SCHOOL DISTRICT ASSISTANT COACH JOB DESCRIPTION
Coaching and Training:
The assistant coach will remain current with all SDHSAA and Canistota School District requirements.
The head coach will evaluate the assistant coaches
Carries out responsibilities as designated by the head coach.
Loyalty to the program through positive input to the head coach and showing support and acceptance for head coaching decisions.
Utilize video analysis and other technological tools to provide feedback and enhance player development and knowledge of the activity (rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques)
Foster a positive and supportive learning environment.
Assist in implementing strategies to build team chemistry and cohesion, such as team-building activities and bonding exercises.
Participate in pre-season and post-season meetings with the activities director, parents, and student-athletes. These post-season meetings will serve as an evaluation conference.
Game Management
Assist in developing scouting reports on opponents, analyzing their strengths, weaknesses, and tendencies.
Ensure game plan implementation that capitalizes on the team's strengths while exploiting the opposition's weaknesses.
Communicate game strategies effectively to players, aligning them with the head coach's game plan and ensuring they understand their roles and responsibilities.
Maintain a positive attitude throughout the activity, including pre-game, half-time, or post-game speeches or interactions.
Assist in managing the team's energy and morale, providing encouragement and motivation during challenging moments.
Maintain a positive example for student-athletes toward assigned officials and judges.
Student-Athlete Development
Observe players during practice and competitions to provide individualized feedback and guidance on technique, strategy, and performance.
Support the holistic development of student-athletes, addressing their athletic skills, academic progress, and personal growth.
Serve as a mentor and role model, imparting valuable life lessons such as discipline, resilience, and teamwork.
Foster a culture of accountability and responsibility, where players take ownership of their development and contribute positively to the team dynamic.
Coordinate a strength training program throughout the year (fall, winter, spring, summer) to enhance student-athletes' athletic performance.
Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.
Collaborate with other coaches and weight room supervisors to track student-athlete participation.
Be willing to help facilitate open gym sessions.
Program Administration
Follow state, conference, and district regulations governing SDHSAA-sanctioned programs to ensure compliance with all relevant policies and regulations, including eligibility requirements, safety protocols, and code of conduct standards.
In collaboration with the head coach, communication with players will occur through a school district administration-approved social media platform.
Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior and provides proper supervision of athletes at all times.
Seek out professional development opportunities through clinics, seminars, and in-service programs to improve your coaching skills and stay current with new trends in coaching, training, conditioning, and safety procedures.
Represent the school professionally in demeanor, language, and conduct (based on standards established by the activities director).
Follows established procedures for the proper care, maintenance, and requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
Recruitment and Retention
Encourage young men and women to participate in sports and other extra-curricular activities other than his/her own, but do not attempt to influence the specific sport or activity.
Cultivate relationships with youth coaches and local clubs to identify and develop talent.
Assist in providing leadership in his or her program(s) for all levels (Junior High, 9th, 10th, JV, and Varsity) of the sport/activity.
