JOB RESPONSIBLITIES:

1. Responsible for teaching physical education at the PreK-9 level with regular scheduled activities that relate to health and positive recreational aspects that carry over to home and community.
2. Develops daily lesson plans with specific behavioral objectives
3. Develops courses of study in Physical education classes using relevant objectives with long-term goals.
4. Maintains and uses grading system.
5. Ensures the safety of the students through inspection of equipment, materials, the gymnasium,
6. Presents a variety of activities that will give each student an opportunity to improve various physical skills, strengths, agility, endurance, flexibility coordination, overall  general physical, mental and social well-being.
7. Have knowledge of the goals, principles and techniques of Health, Physical Education and Recreation and a good understanding of the interest and motivation of individuals and groups.
8. Plan, supervises, administer and carry out or evaluate the Physical Education programs to stimulate and sustain the interests of students and contribute to their physical, creative and social development.
9. Plan, evaluate and provide therapeutic Physical Education for those students who may have disabilities as an integral part of their education.
10. Independently develops teaching units.
11. Uses judgement in following established procedures, may deviate for guides to ensure effectiveness.
12. May adopt or develop new guidelines to increase student interest, motivation and improve the quality of instruction.
13. Other duties as assigned.
14. Adhere to all policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

• Bachelor of Science - South Dakota Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
• Must be in good health and capable of fulfilling assigned duties and tasks
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and remain insured at the standard insurance rate
• Knowledge of the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation
• Indian and Veteran preference is considered according to applicable by law.
