Job Description:

Location: Colton Location

Reports to: Building Principals and Superintendent 

The school nurse is responsible for promoting student health and well-being within the educational setting. They provide healthcare services, health education, and counseling to students, faculty, and staff. The school nurse plays a critical role in maintaining a safe and healthy school environment conducive to learning.


Responsibilities:
Health Assessment and Evaluation:

Evaluate and manage acute and chronic health conditions in students.
Monitor immunization records and ensure compliance with state and local regulations.
Maintain confidential health records for all students.
Healthcare Services:

Provide first aid and emergency care for injuries and illnesses that occur during school hours.
Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by healthcare providers.
Develop and implement individualized healthcare plans for students with special medical needs.
Collaborate with parents, teachers, and healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care.
Health Education and Promotion:

Develop and deliver health education programs for students on topics such as nutrition, hygiene, and personal safety.
Conduct workshops and training sessions for faculty and staff on health-related topics.
Health Policy and Compliance:

Interpret and implement school health policies and procedures in accordance with state and local regulations.
Collaborate with school administrators and stakeholders to develop and review health policies and emergency protocols.
Stay updated on current health trends, research, and best practices in school nursing.
Qualifications:

Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of South Dakota preferred.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
CPR and First Aid certification.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks.
Knowledge of child development and common pediatric health issues.
Experience working with children and adolescents preferred.
Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Ability to stand, walk, and bend for extended periods.
Visual and auditory acuity to assess student health and respond to emergencies.
Working Conditions:

Work primarily takes place in a school setting, including classrooms and offices.
May be exposed to infectious diseases and bodily fluids.
Regular interaction with students, parents, faculty, and healthcare professionals.
