Job Description:
SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER
MAJOR FUNCTION:
Assist classroom teachers in implementing the primary education program goals for special education student.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
· One (1) year of Highly Effective/Effective classroom teaching experience.
· Valid South Dakota teaching certificate in elementary special education.
· Proven experience successfully managing special education department functions and staff preferred.
· Teaching certification preferred.
· Lean Six Sigma Certification preferred. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find acceptable.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
· Clear and concise oral and written communication skills; analytical, mathematical, organizational, and prioritization skills; flexibility and adaptability in dealing with rapidly changing priorities and demands.
· Knowledge of and the ability to interpret and enforce pertinent regulations, policies, and procedures for the functional area of assignment.
· Knowledge of and experience using multiple project management tools and methodologies.
· Knowledge of HIPAA, Public Records, SDCC Law, FERPA, and other laws/regulations related to student and employee privacy, public information, and records retention.
· Ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel.
· Ability to deliver high-quality customer service in a timely and professional manner.
REPORTS TO: Superintendent / Principal or Designated Administrator ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
· Assist in the coordination of all services and program elements in the South Dakota Primary Education Program.
· Provide in-service and technical assistance to primary teachers, support personnel, and parents in a team approach to instruction.
· Assist and support the classroom teacher in screening students, matching, and implementing teacher strategies and evaluating progress.
· Assist in the coordination of services for students requiring further assessment and subsequent placement into special programs.
· Maintain records and prepare reports related to primary age students.

· Seek out professional development opportunities and maintain professional licensure and certifications.
