Job Title: 2025-2026 Title 1 and ELL Teacher (Grades K-5)

Location: Canistota School District 43-1

Position Type: Full-Time

Job Summary

The Title 1 and ELL (English Language Learner) Teacher will provide specialized instruction and support to K-5 students who qualify for Title 1 services and those students K-12 who are English language learners. The teacher will work to ensure that all students achieve academic success in core subjects by developing and implementing individualized learning plans. This role includes direct instruction, small group interventions, collaboration with classroom teachers, and communication with families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Title 1 Instruction:

    • Provide targeted instruction in reading, writing, and math to students who qualify for Title 1 services.

    • Develop and implement instructional plans based on student data, assessments, and specific learning needs.

    • Monitor and track student progress through regular assessments and adjust teaching strategies as needed.

    • Collaborate with classroom teachers to ensure alignment of Title 1 interventions with the general education curriculum.

  • ELL Instruction:

    • Deliver specialized instruction in English language development to students identified as English language learners.

    • Assess students’ language proficiency levels and provide instruction designed to improve listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.

    • Utilize a variety of teaching strategies to accommodate different learning styles and language abilities.

    • Collaborate with classroom teachers to support ELL students’ integration and success in the general education classroom.

  • Collaboration and Communication:

    • Work closely with classroom teachers, school administrators, and support staff to create individualized learning plans.

    • Participate in data analysis meetings to review student progress and adapt instruction accordingly.

    • Maintain open communication with parents/guardians to inform them of student progress and strategies for supporting learning at home.

    • Attend school in-service sessions and parent-teacher conferences.

    • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay informed of best practices for Title 1 and ELL instruction.

  • Compliance and Documentation:

    • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local Title 1 and ELL program requirements. Such as working with the Superintendent to ensure McKinney-Vento documents are submitted on time and meet the SD Department of Education guidelines.

    • Maintain accurate records, including student progress reports, assessments, and instructional plans.

    • Prepare and submit reports as required by school administration and Title 1/ELL coordinators.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or related field (required).

  • Valid teaching certification with endorsements in Title 1 and/or ELL (required).

  • Experience working with elementary school students in both Title 1 and ELL settings (preferred).

  • Strong understanding of literacy and numeracy intervention strategies.

  • Knowledge of ELL instructional strategies, including language acquisition theories and practices.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

  • Ability to work with diverse student populations and adapt instruction to meet varied learning needs.

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with assessment tools and data analysis to drive instructional decisions.

  • Experience in differentiated instruction and small group intervention.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team of educators and support staff.

  • Proficiency in using technology to enhance instruction and maintain records.

Working Conditions:

  • Full-time position.

  • Standard school hours with occasional evening or weekend events.

  • Collaborative and supportive teaching environment.

Salary: 

  • Base salary of $47,200. Salary could increase depending on experience and qualifications, in accordance with the district salary schedule.
