General Statement of Duties
The Behavior Analyst conducts descriptive and systematic (e.g., analogue) behavioral
assessments, including writing and implementing behavior interventions plans. The
Behavior Analyst designs and supervises individual student interventions, conducts
Functional Behavior Assessments, oversees social skills training, provides professional
development to staff, and assists with a district-wide, multi-tiered behavior program. The
Behavior Analyst works directly with students, parents, administrators, instructors, other
educational leaders, and outside community and/or state agencies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Strive to achieve the district's mission, instructional goals, and objectives.
• Develop and implement appropriate assessments and behavioral intervention
methods for use in classroom, school settings, and for a range of unfamiliar
situations for students.
• Participates in child study staffing’s, provides feedback on behavioral assessments,
interventions, and strategies.
• Provides technical support and in-service training programs for teachers and other
staff on applied behavioral analysis, including discrete trial training, establishing
classroom schedules, overall classroom management, data collection, and the
implementation of specific instructional and behavioral strategies in the students’
natural environment.
• Meet with parents to discuss student progress and problems. Obtain necessary
consent for evaluations for the referred students.
• Consults and provides parent and staff training to support intervention plans at
school and in the home and community.
• Provides regular service reviews to ensure ongoing compliance with implementation
of behavior plans.
• Act as a resource for information regarding behavior interventions for district
administrators, instructional staff, and paraprofessionals.
• Work in collaboration with IEP team members to review test results, identify possible
steps to serve the child’s needs, and make recommendations for the best
educational placement in the least restrictive environment.
• Ensure compliance with the performance standards and other various federal and
state regulations.
• Maintain discipline and create a positive and safe learning environment for students
and staff.
• Continue professional development through reading, course work, conference

attendance, professional committee work, workshops, and interaction with educators
from other districts.
• Prepare and submit necessary reports to principal, Special Services Director, and
district office as requested.
• Operate various equipment to include photocopier, telephone, computer, educational
equipment, etc,
• Attend meetings, training, and seminars deemed appropriate and necessary by the
district.
• Work directly with highly sensitive student information. Maintain confidentiality of
work-related information.
• Perform duties in compliance with safety standards established by the district.
• Due to the nature of the duties and to promote the efficient operations of the district,
it is necessary for the employee to work the assigned and scheduled shifts.
• Perform other duties as deemed appropriate and necessary.
Minimum Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential

Education and Experience
• Master’s Degree;
• Moderate experience in a job related field preferred
Skills and Abilities
• Ability to work well with subordinates, public entities, educational professionals, etc.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and
maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports, evaluations, and correspondence.
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of students or employees of organization.
• Proficiency in math, language, and computer skills.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations
where only limited standardization exists.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or
schedule form.
• Work under pressure to meet tight time schedules and deadlines, and handle
significant problems and tasks, which come up simultaneously or unexpectedly.
Certificates, Licenses, Examinations
• Board Certified Behavior Analyst Certification (nationally certified);
• Valid Driver’s License
• Evidence that a criminal record history check and required physical examination
have been conducted in accordance with South Dakota Codified Law.

• Other such examinations as deemed necessary by district.
