Job Description:

QUALIFICATIONS:
 
Ability to acquire valid South Dakota Teacher certification, alternative certification or licensure in Human Services Career Cluster.
Knowledge of current best practices and innovations in the industry aligned to teaching assignment.
Ability to interact effectively with parents, school district personnel, and representatives of other agencies.
Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with students.
Excellent organizational skills, time management skills, written and verbal communication skills.
 
REPORT TO:
Reports directly to the building principal.
Takes guidance from instructional coach.
 
JOB GOAL: Plans, directs, and evaluates learning experiences for the students in alignment with South Dakota state standards and laws, Oglala Lakota County School District policy, and Lakota Tech High School’s mission and goals.
 
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
1.     Ability to Plan and Prepare Instructional Tasks
Plan instructional tasks that are meaningful and related to learning goals
Utilize technology, internet and software application to engage students in the learning process.
Actively seek out innovative strategies to engage students in hands-on, work-based learning.
2.     Provide Instruction to Students
Meeting South Dakota Curriculum Standards while seeking to bring learning to the real-world.
Maintain a strong instructional focus utilizing the elements of effective instruction
Communicate a high level of expectation for all students
Communicate clear learning goals to students that connect the current learning to future goals
Adapt instruction to meet the needs of all students
Address various learning styles
Sequence content at an appropriate pace
Use appropriate level of questioning to promote understanding
Relate lesson content to prior and future learning and life-long practices for career success
Appropriately recognize and reinforce individual student effort
Represent knowledge/information through a variety of methods
Require students to analyze and apply knowledge
Display enjoyment, humor, and enthusiasm for teaching and expect students to enjoy learning
Conduct ongoing assessments for learning
 
3.     Provide Effective Classroom Environment
Establish appropriate classroom rules and procedures that are clearly understood by all students
 
·      Effectively and consistently enforce rules and follow procedures
 
·      Redirect students naturally and immediately without disrupting the learning or creating shame
 
·      Be well-organized and have all materials, equipment, etc., ready for immediate use
 
·      Carry out smooth and effective transitions (e.g., from one activity to another, as students enter and leave the room)
 
·      Maximize time on purposeful instructional tasks
 
·      Begin and end class period with a focus on learning and establishing meaningful connections to student goals.
 
·      Establish a positive learning environment for all students
 
4.     Participate in Professional Growth Opportunities and Demonstrate Professionalism
 
·      Participate in ongoing professional growth
 
·      Participate in school/professional and/or community organizations or events
 
·      Complete routine assigned tasks and comply with District requirements
 
Collaborates with teachers that share content, grade levels and student groups to ensure effective instruction and student success
 
·      Communicate effectively and professionally with colleagues, parents, students and other stakeholders
 
·      Conduct parent-teacher conferences in accordance with District policy
5.     Works with principal or other assigned personnel to ensure adequate equipment for students to participate in learning aligned with current industry practices. Maintains inventory of equipment to ensure timely ordering of materials and products. 
6.     Follow District and building policies and procedures
 
7.     Support of District goals
 
8.     Report student progress to parents and students
 
9.     Perform other duties as assigned
 
EVALUATION: The performance of this position will be evaluated by the Human Resources Director.
